She was born on 1st March at Shillong. Her father was a Govt. Physician in Shillong, his name was Dr. R. N. Borah and her mother’s name is Mrs. Janaki Borah. Among the four children she is the youngest one. She was born and brought up in a family where all family members had interest in music, sports, etc.
Since her childhood she was interested in dancing specially in Bihu and Manipuri dances. She learned Manipuri dances under her guruji Shri Sukumoni Singh from Manipur and she learned classical songs under Shri late Dhirendra Nath Das (J.P Das’s father) and Miss Bela Choudhury of Shillong. During her school days she was a music secretary and organised many cultural functions in school and wrote dramas and acted the leading role and directed many dramas and songs and got many prizes in sports like best athletes, badminton, etc. She completed her degree from Lady Keane College of Shillong and took initiative in all cultural programmes. She joined the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) for her Master’s Degree in Political Science during that time she participated in many competitions and got many prizes in Hindi and Bengali songs.
She moved to Guwahati University for Library Science and L.LB in 1983 during the time she took part in fashion show, sports and cultural programmes and received many prizes. She acted in a Doordarshan Assam serial titled is “AJIR MANUH” directed by Syed Abdul Malik and got chance to act in some movies but due to her govt. service she was unable to join film industry. Her interview was broadcasted on radio in 2012 on a special ladies programme "Aaideu Bulooni"
In 2001 she released her ghazal album title ”Mehsoos” (a collection of ghazals), music was composed by J.P Das, produced by Mrs. Janaki Borah. In 2014, she launched her ghazal album DVD “AAINA”, at the press club of Guwahati, Assam.
Her latest Ghazal Album is "Ulfat" released by Ghazal Singer Mohammed Vakil in 2019 at Riyadh. The Music Composer is Ram Avtar Dayama and was recorded in Jaipur. The other Singers in the Album are Mohammed Vakil and M. Sayeed.
Apart from her music life she likes to spend her time with nature and animals, birds, etc. and take care of stray dogs, etc and like to provide medical help for sick animals.
